Taiwan revised two safety regulations for vehicle parts and components

In order to ensure consistency with the latest UN/ECE standards, in mid-February 2012, the Taiwan region issued two circulars to revise the fuel tanks for vehicles and child protection devices for vehicles on the existing standards.

UN/ECE, that is, the UN ECE Automobile Regulations, was established by the European Economic Commission in the 1950s to unify international vehicle technical regulations and promote international trade. The main reference for the revision of the relevant standards in the Taiwan area is the uniform provision of the UN/ECER34 Vehicle Fire Insurance Precautionary Measures Certification and the UN/ECER44 Uniform Regulations for the Infant Restraint Device Standards on motor vehicles.

The revision of two testing standards in Taiwan is no doubt a response to market demands. The fuel tank is the most flammable and explosive part of the vehicle body. This revision supplements the detailed requirements for structural safety to keep up with the latest European standards changes. At the same time, in recent years, the awareness and requirements of children's related products in European countries have become higher and higher, and Regulation No. 44 was formulated in 1995 for vehicle protection devices that may pose potential danger to children. The revised CNS11497 “Child Protection Device for Vehicles” (promulgated on June 7, 2010) in Taiwan also added all child protection devices for vehicles to the regulatory scope to protect the safety of children riding on vehicles.

Under the current international trade situation, the product standards of all countries are moving towards a consistent development, and the objects of interest are all developed countries and regions such as the European Union. Although China signed the UN/ECE agreement on the use of global motor vehicle technology in 2000, it must also pay sufficient attention to changes in the standards of certain exporting countries or regions. Here, the inspection and quarantine department reminds relevant auto parts manufacturers to actively refer to UN/ECE standards in the production process of various parts and components to improve product performance and improve product safety factor. While continuing to develop new markets, it is necessary to cultivate good internal strength, produce quality and safe products, establish its own brand, and expand product exports.
