The history of a crutch

For the past 15 years, in the deep mountains of Shuanghe Township in Enshi City, people have seen a middle-aged man in his 40s almost every day, regardless of the heat or cold.

He carrying a cane full of nodules, carrying cane sticks, carrying two big parcels, carrying his body, or walking alone on the rough rugged mountain road, or shuttle in the thickets of bush thorn bushes, or trek deep in the In the remote river.

His name is Zhang Meichong and he is posted by the Shuanghe Post Office. The villagers cordially called him "Crutcher Brother."

Among the mountains and mountains, a 108-kilometer-long postal road is linked with five administrative villages, including Muliyuan Village, Hexi Village, Ganping Village, and Cheying Village. The remote and dangerous Shanxiang Post Road in Enshi City has become the only bridge for 7,000 villagers to communicate with the outside world.

On January 1, 1998, Zhang Meichong, 33, took the initiative to take delivery of the line. Prior to this, the postman of the postal route had changed several times.

The story happened in a winter.

At that time, Zhang Meichong just took over the delivery of the postal route soon. Just three days before leaving New Year's Eve, Zhang Meichong took a large packet of mail and stepped on a foot of deep snow to send an e-mail to Tai Shan Miao Village. At the door of the villagers Xiong Zhizhong, a large wolf dog suddenly slammed out and shoved Zhang Meichong down one meter high. The e-mail was scattered all over the place. Every time he came into the mountains to send mail, he took the crutch with him and quickly discovered many of its magical uses: it could be used as a dog stick, a snake stick, a trekking pole, and can support the body of a long journey. When crossing the river, the depth of the water can be detected. When the parcel has a shoulder to hurt, it can be used as a “pole pole” for picking up postal parcels.

He was almost washed away by a flash flood, once nearly fell off the cliff, and missed a landslide. There is still a palpable purple scar.

One's Long March

In Zhang Meichong's view, the pair of liberation shoes of 18 yuan is a good “weapon” for him to squat in the mountains: in addition to wearing deep rubber boots, at other times, whether it is an ice-covered mountain road or a muddy gut, whether it involves The creek, or the Weihe River, whether it is a cliff full of sharp rocks or an overgrown mountain, he walks on the feet of the postal route and has never left such a pair of shoes. Wet pollution does not get in the way, hiking does not grind feet, wear badly.

Almost every day, he was carrying two mail bags weighing more than 20 kilograms, carrying large and small items that he had brought to the village. Repeatedly, he repeated such postal routes on foot. In order to bring as much mail as he could, he never brought dry food and drinking water. He was thirsty, took a mountain spring and was hungry. He caught up with the villagers and ate and sipped. If he did not catch it, he groaned; when he was lonely and bored, he would Turn on the ringtone and let the sound of music reverberate in the open mountains. "The weight of a bottle of water is worth more than 10 newspapers and dozens of letters," said Zhang Meichong.

With long-term weights, his right shoulder has become habitually inclined, and when the weather changes, he will still feel pain.

Centered on the Shuanghe Post Office, Zhang Meichong’s postal route extends in a circular arc toward both ends. Most of them are steep mountain roads and river channels. Some road sections are simply jungles with no roads. There are often no families within a few kilometers. Along the way, he had to climb over three mountains, over a dozen rivers and ditches, and it took 108 days to walk down the entire postal route. It took him three days.

In the past year, with the improved traffic conditions in Shanxiang, Zhang Meichong’s postal route has been optimized, but the postal route is still 86 kilometers. After the route was optimized, in order to ensure that the delivery of the villagers' mail was more timely, Zhang Meichong changed to send mail once every two days. The average daily journey was 40 kilometers. Even if it is based on 300 days per year, his annual journey is 12,000 kilometers. It is equivalent to walking a 25,000-mile long march every year. In roughly 15 years, his total journey has exceeded 180,000 kilometers.

The rugged mountain road is difficult. Zhang Mei Chong wears two or three pairs of liberation shoes every month. He wears more than 20 pairs of liberation shoes a year. Every summer, Zhang Meichong starts every day at five o'clock in the morning. He must embark before 12 o'clock in the morning and after 2 o'clock in the afternoon to send the e-mails to the villagers' homes to avoid the high temperatures at noon.

For important mail such as villagers’ money orders and mail-order medicines, as long as the mail arrives at the post office, he must serve the villagers for the first time and never delay.

Last winter, Yang Xuewu, an old man in Ganping Village, suffered from a skin disease and was unable to sleep on itching overnight. After the old man mailed the drug to the post office, Zhang Meichong took the snow and took more than 20 kilometers of mountain road to send drugs to the elderly. The villagers of Tamuli Village and the 20-year-old daughter of Muli Village suffer from epilepsy. In April of this year, Zhang Mei Chong’s left ear was sick and had to be hospitalized. In order not to delay the delivery, he took out his own pockets and spent 500 yuan. Over the past few years, Zhang Meichong’s mail bags, letters, newspapers, money orders, and other mails amounted to more than one million, none of which had been lost, damaged, or delayed. The total amount of money sent to the villagers amounted to more than 600,000 yuan, and no penny occurred. There are countless mistakes made by the villagers to bring goods to the market and the customer's complaint rate is zero.

Zhang Meichong said that it is the post of a delivery person who does not lose or damage the mail and deliver it in time.
