According to reports, Goodyear Tire and Rubber has acquired 100% ownership of Japan's giant tires (NGT), a subsidiary in Japan's Chenye. Goodyear has been a major shareholder of NGT since 1985. It has acquired shares of its joint venture partners Toyo Tire Rubber and Mitsubishi Corporation. In addition, in order to increase its supply of construction machinery tires to major customers around the world, Goodyear also announced an investment of US$250 million to upgrade and expand NGT's tire manufacturing facilities. The expansion will also support the growth of the company's Asia Pacific construction machinery tire business, mainly in Australia, one of the world's largest market for construction machinery tires.
Allegedly, the expansion of the facility is expected to be fully operational in early 2014. This investment will enable NGT to produce a full range of 57-inch tires and one day to produce 63-inch tires. At the end of 2010, Goodyear began manufacturing 63-inch construction machinery tires at its plant in Topeka, Kansas. The company also produces construction machinery tires at its factories in Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Luxembourg, India, Indonesia, Thailand, South Africa and Turkey.
