At present, there are about 30 stone coal extraction vanadium plants in China, most of which use traditional sodium roasting, water immersion, acid precipitation, crude vanadium, alkali dissolution, ammonium vanadate vanadium precipitation process (above). The roasting equipment in the process is mostly flat kiln, part of the color boiling furnace.
The main technical and economic indicators of the process are: calcination conversion rate of flat kiln <5.3%, boiling furnace is <65%; water immersion recovery rate is 88% to 93%; hydrolyzed coarse vanadium recovery rate is 92% to 96%, refined recovery rate 90%～93%; the total recovery rate of flat kiln smelting is <45%, and the total recovery rate of smelting furnace is 55%. The main raw material index per tonne of vanadium pentoxide consumption (t): salt 20 to 28, ammonium chloride 1.2 to 2, caustic soda 1 to 1.5, hydrochloric acid 1.5 to 1.8; if sulfuric acid is 0.8 to 1.0 (Wang Yongshuang et al., 1993).
The process equipment is simple, the process is not complicated, the investment is small, the raw materials are easy to solve, and it is suitable for the production of scattered, small factories and mines. However, there are many shortcomings: the recovery rate is low, and the discharge of a large amount of kiln containing hydrochloric acid, chlorine gas, sulfur dioxide and vanadium waste seriously pollutes the environment. In view of the problems of low recovery rate and environmental pollution, the research institutes carried out research and proposed and tested some new processes: such as oxidative roasting-acid leaching-intermediate salt-extraction-ammonium salt vanadium-burning vanadium-making process; Oxidative roasting-acid leaching-extraction-ammonium salt vanadium-fired vanadium-making process; oxidative roasting-acid leaching and impurity separation-sink vanadium-burning vanadium-making process (Ma Shiqiang, Liu Shisen, 1995). But these new processes have many problems to solve from trial to industrial production. Because the traditional sodium roasting process is simple and mature, if it can solve the problems of sodium salt recovery and waste gas treatment, it is still a safe and reliable vanadium extraction process suitable for small township factories.
