In the first half of the year, Shanghai GM’s MPV sales increased by 27.8% year-on-year to 37,200 units, down from the second time in the same period last year to third, while sales of Jilin Auto MPV increased by 11.3% year-on-year, ranking fifth.
The fastest decline in sales of MPVs in the top five automakers was Guangzhou Automobile's Honda, which fell 47.0% year-on-year to 11.7 million units, and its ranking dropped from third in the first half of last year to seventh in the year. In addition to the factors of market competition, the decline in its sales volume is related to the shortage of production capacity in Guangben and the increase in the tight production capacity of the Japanese earthquake.
The second largest drop after Guangben was Chery Automobile MPV (V5, Elegant and Ubiquitous) and FAW Haima, which fell 45.6% and 45.3%, respectively.
Shanghai Volkswagen and Brilliance Automotive recorded a slight drop in MPV sales in the first half of this year, with margins of 0.4% and 3.5% respectively.
