Background
Recycled PET bottle flakes are produced from waste beverage bottles through sorting, crushing, washing, and drying processes. This means that recycled PET flakes can be manufactured wherever there is beverage consumption. As a major importer of recycled PET flakes, China imports over 10-13 million tons annually.
In 2017, China introduced stricter environmental regulations, banning the import of waste plastics, including recycled PET in the form of bales or flakes. Under these new rules, only granules or chips are allowed to be imported. Therefore, it's essential to re-pelletize the recycled PET flakes for recyclers.

Processing Concerns
- Avoid hydrolysis during the re-pelletizing process of PET flakes;
- Large displacement ventilating devices are needed to minimize IV value reduction;
- Minimize yellowing during the re-pelletizing process;

- Adequate pre-drying time is necessary before re-pelletizing. ACERETECH uses venting-type compactors or lifting-type drying hoppers to remove moisture and prevent PET hydrolysis;

- Combining modular processing sections with efficient degassing structures from twin-screw extruders and an automatic 3-level Roots vacuum pump system ensures a vacuum pressure of -0.1MPa, effectively removing volatiles and minimizing IV value reduction;

- Optimized process steps and specialized screw design allow continuous and efficient transformation of PET flakes into molten state, reducing the risk of yellowing due to dead zones or localized overheating;
- Strand pelletizing is commonly used for PET, where strands from the extruder die are manually cooled in water, dried with air knives, and cut into pellets. This method is suitable for capacities below 600kg/h;
- For high-capacity PET pelletizing, underwater pelletizing systems are more appropriate, offering better automation and efficiency.
