As of late September 2021, the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have been overwhelmed with cargo ships. Over half a million containers are currently waiting to be unloaded, creating a massive bottleneck that's impacting supply chains nationwide. With the holiday season approaching, the situation has only worsened, as more ships continue to arrive daily.

Compounding the issue is a shortage of trucks, rail cars, and warehouse space. The ongoing effects of the pandemic have also played a role—many workers remain unavailable due to health restrictions. Additionally, the aging infrastructure of these ports struggles to handle the ever-growing size of modern cargo vessels. These factors together have led to significant delays in deliveries across the country.

This isn’t the first time Southern California ports have faced challenges, but the current backlog is unlike anything seen before.
