The McCook Fire Department has been tackling a significant mulch fire since early morning at the location on 5300 Lawndale. Throughout much of the day, they relied on a tanker shuttle system to supply water to the fire. The blaze is located at the rear of a massive mulch pile, where access remains limited.
As the afternoon progressed, the firefighters decided to release the tankers and called for additional resources from Chicago, including a hose wagon (6-1-2) and a turret wagon (6-7-6). This marks what many believe to be the first deployment of the newly acquired 6-7-6 unit.
A few contributors have been present at the scene, capturing moments with their phones. Photos were submitted by Josh Boyajian and Tim Olk, and we’re eagerly anticipating more visuals later tonight. It’s clear that this firefighting effort will span several hours, if not longer.
Attached below are several images taken from different angles. These photos showcase the intensity of the fire and the efforts being made by the Chicago Fire Department to control the situation.
