The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District (FPD) received an emergency call from a local resident who spotted smoke coming from a house at 124 Poteet in Inverness, just two blocks away from the fire station. Upon receiving the report, Engine 36 was dispatched and quickly upgraded to a working fire (Code 4) shortly after arriving on scene. Several neighboring fire departments, including Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Barrington, East Dundee, West Dundee, Palatine, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, and Prospect Heights, were also called in to assist with the incident.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke emerging from a first-floor kitchen window, and no one was present in the home. Inside, the conditions resembled those of a well-established fire, but the crews managed to contain and extinguish the flames within 20 minutes. The quick response and coordination between multiple departments helped prevent further damage.
Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived at the scene after the fire had been fully suppressed. Below are several images capturing the efforts of the responding units.
