Four historic extra alarm fires ravage Chicago from 11/12/64 – 11/14/64

This message is from Steve Redick: November 1964 saw a three-day period that was one of the busiest in Chicago's recent history. It was even featured in a TV news special. You can watch it here. I've got some old news clippings from two of the biggest fires during that time. They were quite something! Here’s what I’ve managed to save: - The Goldblatts warehouse fire (with involvement from both the 5-11 and 7 Specials) at 4000 South Kedzie. - A major blaze at 18th and Clark. - Another significant fire at 2455 South Michigan Avenue. These events really left their mark on the city. I remember the chaos and how everyone pitched in to help. There was just so much happening all at once, and it felt like the entire city was on edge. Steve [Attached are several images from the Warren Redick collection showing news clippings of these historic Chicago fires. The first image shows firefighters battling flames at a vacated Goldblatts warehouse. The second image captures the intense scene at another massive fire. There’s also a detailed clipping from the destruction of McCormick Place in Chicago back in February 13, 1971. Each photo gives a glimpse into the scale of these disasters and the efforts made to contain them.] It's amazing to see how these events shaped not only the landscape but also the spirit of the city. Fires like these remind us of the resilience of both the people and the structures that make up Chicago. I’m grateful for the chance to share these pieces of history with you. Steve
