Driver killed in head-on crash in Long Grove 10-22-14

Hey everyone, This just came in from Larry Shapiro about an incident that happened earlier today. Apparently, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a serious head-on collision on Old McHenry Road, just north of Cuba Road in Long Grove. When they arrived, they found a car involved in a collision with a semi-truck. The car had caught fire, and its driver was trapped inside. Thankfully, the firefighters managed to extricate the driver pretty quickly and rushed them off to Condell Hospital. The fire, which had even spread to the passenger area, was brought under control rather swiftly. Interestingly, the semi-truck was parked on the shoulder—on the wrong side of the road, no less—as the driver had been delivering construction materials up a long driveway using a piggyback truck-mounted forklift. He said he saw smoke as he approached but didn’t hear the actual crash. Once he noticed the flames, he tried to use an extinguisher to put out the fire, along with a Lake County Sheriff's deputy who was also present. I’ve attached some photos taken by Larry Shapiro. You can see the firefighters working hard to extinguish the blaze while also ensuring the trapped driver is safely freed. Another shot shows two firefighters actively combating the fire while a third focuses on rescuing the individual. There’s also a picture of the aftermath showing how the accident left the car severely damaged—luckily, the airbag didn’t deploy. If you'd like to see more images, they're available on shapirophotography.net. Stay safe, everyone! Best regards, [Your Name]
