This morning, at around 9701 Dee Road, Niles companies responded to an apartment fire. When the first units arrived, they found flames erupting from a fifth-floor balcony and thick smoke billowing out of a side window of a corner unit. The initial alarm was escalated to a Code 4 for an active fire and then further upgraded to a Box Alarm. As firefighters began their search efforts, they discovered several occupants still inside the building, prompting an EMS Box Alarm to be called as a precautionary measure.
The fire was quickly brought under control and confined to the unit of origin along with the adjacent hallway. A few residents who couldn’t evacuate on their own remained safely inside their apartments until help arrived.
Three aerial trucks were positioned around the building, and Niles Engine 2 set up a line to charge the standpipe system. Other departments such as Glenview, Northfield, Lincolnwood, and North Maine also sent support, as seen in more photos from Steve Redick. It’s clear that it took a coordinated effort from multiple teams to manage this situation effectively.
