This morning, at around 9701 Dee Road, a fire broke out in an apartment building, and the Niles company responded promptly. When the first responding units arrived, they discovered flames bursting out of a fifth-floor balcony and thick smoke escaping through a side window of a corner unit. The alarm was quickly escalated to a Code 4 for an active fire and then further to a Box Alarm. As firefighters began searching the building, they found several occupants inside and, as a precaution, an EMS Box Alarm was called in.
The fire was brought under control relatively quickly and remained confined to the unit of origin along with the adjacent hallway. Some residents who couldn’t evacuate themselves were safely kept in their apartments until the situation stabilized.
Three aerial apparatuses were positioned around the structure, and Niles Engine 2 set up a hose line to charge the building’s standpipe system.
