Western LNG BV, a subsidiary of the energy giant Shell, based in The Hague, the Netherlands, has signed an agreement with dredging and dredging company Van der Kamp to supply LNG fuel to a new LNG power boat.
Shell will supply fuel for LNG powerboats
According to the agreement, Shell Western LNG BV will supply condensed fuel to the new ship named "Ecodelta". The ship is currently being built at the Barkmeijer Shipyard in the Netherlands and is expected to be operational in 2018 to serve the Port of Rotterdam until 2023.
At present, there are no LNG power dredgers in operation around the world, so the “Ecodelta” will be the first LNG power dredger to operate. The Belgian shipowner DEME also has three such ships being built at the Royal IHC Shipyard in the Netherlands.
As early as October 2015, Shell entered the LNG import and storage terminal at the Port of Rotterdam to supply LNG for Nordic ship and road transport. As the largest port in Europe, Rotterdam is the main port for refueling ships, and the port's LNG terminal has an advantageous position.
