When the financial crisis was most severe in 2009 and the mature automobile market was severely shrinking, General Motors, which was in danger of bankruptcy, sold Saab vehicles and eventually sold them to the Dutch sports car company Spyker in February 2010.

In the first quarter of 2011, its production and sales continued to increase year-on-year. Among them, wholesale sales to dealers were 9,674, an increase of 166.5%; terminal retail sales were 9,393, an increase of 92.7%; output increased by 405.7% year-on-year to 1,099,000 units, and the larger year-on-year increase was mainly due to last year’s first Its production has been stagnant for a long period of time.

Although sales of Saab vehicles have improved since 2010, sales have not yet recovered to the same level in 2009 (13,300 units) in the first quarter of this year, far from the level of 2008 and before. The global sales of Germany's three luxury car brands, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, have all basically recovered to pre-crisis levels.

Saab intends to focus on developing China and Russia market

The top three markets for Saab Automotive are Sweden, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In addition, Saab Motors is also increasing its development in Europe, the United States and other automotive markets in Asia Pacific. The two emerging markets most valued by Saab are China and Russia.



In March this year, Saab announced the signing of an agreement with local companies on the development of distribution channels in China and Russia. In China, Saab and China Import Auto Trading Co., Ltd. signed an official cooperative association, which will become Saab's sales company in China and plans to start sales in September this year. Saab was previously sold by Shanghai GM on behalf of GM in China, but its sales are still low. In 2007 and 2008, sales of Saab vehicles in China were 618 vehicles and 836 vehicles respectively. It dropped to 570 in 2009, 33 in 2010, and only 3 in the first quarter of this year.

In Russia, Saab confirmed Armand Import as its distributor and restarted sales in Russia (Saab's sales in Russia have been terminated in September 2010).

In April and early May of this year, Saab Automobile also negotiated with investors from China and Russia. Finally, China and Thailand signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement with China and Thailand, and plans to make Saab in China; at the same time, the Russian financier Lagimir - Antonov's shares, but also initially established. Although the search for Chinese-Russian investors is an emergency move by Saab in the event of a shortage of funds and forced production suspension, the direction of its chosen investors also reflects the market focus of its future development.
