In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Arndt pointed out that BMW is continuously reducing the proportion of German output to total production. Current local production in Germany accounts for 58% of BMW's total production, which is a significant drop from 70% in 2002. Arndt revealed: "From a medium-term perspective, according to our plans in China and the United States, the proportion of (German/overseas) production will be adjusted to 50:50."

BMW plans to achieve a total global sales volume of 2 million by 2020. To achieve this goal, BMW will invest a total of 2 billion euros (2.8 billion US dollars) in its German factory in the next two years. Expansion plans for investment in China and the United States have yet to be formulated. Frank-Peter Arndt pointed out: "The investment plan for 2013-2014 will soon be finalized."
