On Monday afternoon, May 30, 2016, firefighters from Glenview were dispatched to 526 Woodland Drive after reports of heavy black smoke coming from the structure. As units arrived on the scene, the situation quickly escalated, prompting the alarm to be upgraded to a Code 4 for an active working fire. Additional units from Northfield, Wilmette, Morton Grove, and Skokie were also called in to assist. The fire was initially contained to a bedroom and part of the attic, but the home's interior suffered extensive smoke damage. Firefighters worked swiftly to control the blaze and ensure the safety of any occupants. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Several fire engines, including an E-One e-MAX and a Pierce Arrow XT, were seen responding to the call. Crews were seen repacking hoses and preparing equipment after the incident. The affected home appeared to have been significantly impacted by both the fire and the resulting smoke. More photos from the scene are available at shapirophotography.net.
