It felt like déjà vu standing there at the old Zenith industrial site. This place has seen multiple fires over the years, including one I documented a few months back. The blaze this time seemed to originate from the top floor and the roof, with thick plumes of smoke billowing out for quite some time. Due to the hazardous conditions inside, firefighters didn't venture too far in. Instead, they relied on external operations using three elevated platforms, a snorkel truck, a few ladder pipes, and a deck gun to manage the situation. It happened just as the sun was setting, so capturing clear photos was challenging with the rapidly changing light.

Here’s what it looked like from different angles. First up, you’ve got the intense smoke rising above the warehouse. Next, you see Engine 125 parked nearby, ready to assist. Then there’s a wider view of the fire scene with various trucks deployed. Truck 58 is visible in action, followed by Squad 2A hard at work. Tower Ladder 14 appears in several shots, its lights casting an eerie glow against the darkening sky. Engine 117 is also part of the lineup, providing backup. You’ll notice Squad 2A again in another angle, along with more shots of Tower Ladder 14 in operation. There’s even a nighttime shot featuring E-ONE’s tower ladder, illuminated by the fire’s glow. Tower Ladder 10 makes an appearance too, contributing to the effort. And finally, there’s an image highlighting the coordinated use of master streams from elevated positions.
This was quite the spectacle, especially with how the light played across the scene as dusk settled in. The teamwork and coordination among the Chicago Fire Department units were impressive to witness, and it was a reminder of how crucial these operations are in managing such large-scale incidents.
