According to reports, Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli has announced that it will invest US$200 million in the expansion of its Silao plant in central Mexico, which is part of Pirelli's strategic plan announced at the end of 2011.
Pirelli Announces US$200 Million Expansion of Mexico Factory
The Pirelli-Silicon plant was completed on May 31 last year. The company announced in November 2011 that it would spend US$400 million to build the Cirrus factory. So far, Pirelli has invested US$200 million in the Silar plant. This new project is the latter part of the investment plan for 2011. It is expected that this stage will be completed in 2017.
On June 18, 2013, the first million tires produced at the Silau factory went offline. By 2015, the tire production capacity of the Tinao plant is expected to reach 3.5 million pieces/year, and after full operation in 2017, its production capacity is expected to reach 5.5 million pieces/year.
After the completion of the expansion in 2017, the Cirrus factory will create a total of 1,400 direct jobs and 400 indirect jobs. The plant mainly produces high-performance and ultra-high-performance tires for cars and pickups, mainly targeting the North American markets of Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
