A 55-year-old farmer named Sun Laohan from a small village in Rongcheng Yaxi Town recently faced a life-changing accident while working with a homemade device. On the afternoon of February 23rd, he was using a simple grinder powered by his tractor to crush corn stalks for feeding his dairy cows. The device had been assembled by himself, combining the tractor’s power with a basic grinding mechanism.
Unfortunately, during the process, something went terribly wrong. As he fed the corn stalks into the machine, it became jammed. In an attempt to clear the blockage, Sun Laohan placed his right hand inside the crusher. Before he could pull it out, the machine suddenly started again, crushing his hand and causing severe injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, but due to the extent of the damage, his right hand had to be amputated two centimeters above the wrist.
At 3:45 PM that day, after receiving a call from the 120 emergency center, medical staff from Rongcheng People’s Hospital quickly drove tens of kilometers to reach Sun Laohan’s village. Upon arrival, they found the family wrapped in cotton quilts, crying in shock. When they uncovered the old man, they saw his right hand curled up, covered in blood, and he was unconscious with the wound still actively bleeding. The situation was critical—uncontrolled bleeding could have led to fatal consequences.
The medical team immediately began on-site treatment. By 4:10 PM, they successfully stopped the bleeding, secured his injured hand with bandages, and transported him to the hospital as quickly as possible. After several hours of emergency care, Sun Laohan was finally out of danger. However, the damage to his hand was too severe to save, and doctors made the difficult decision to amputate it.
According to Sun Laohan’s family, the accident happened because he had overloaded the machine with too many corn stalks, causing it to jam. They expressed deep regret over the incident, emphasizing that Sun Laohan had no prior experience with such machinery and had only attempted to make things more efficient for his farm. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers of using homemade equipment without proper safety measures.
