Autodesk contributes $1 million to expand Group Effort Initiative educational programming

Las Vegas, NV – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), a global leader in design and making software, has made a significant contribution of $1 million to the Group Effort Initiative (GEI). This nonprofit organization is dedicated to building pathways for underrepresented communities to gain real-world experience and launch long-term careers in the entertainment industry. In the wake of the historic WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, many below-the-line workers and emerging talent found themselves without opportunities. In response, GEI, with the support of Autodesk, expanded its training programs threefold, ensuring that participants could stay engaged with the industry during production pauses. Over the next two years, this collaboration will help scale educational efforts across 18 cities where GEI operates. “From the start, our goal with GEI was to create a sustainable pipeline for underrepresented groups in entertainment,” said Ryan Reynolds, co-founder of GEI. “With Autodesk’s support, we’re not only providing more opportunities but also helping people adapt and thrive in an ever-evolving industry. Their tools let people ‘make anything’—and today, we’re grateful they’re helping so many build their futures.” A recent photo captures the moment Autodesk donated $1 million to expand GEI’s educational programs. The image shows the initiative's commitment to supporting aspiring creatives through hands-on learning and career development. On Tuesday, Ryan Reynolds will join Autodesk Chief Operating Officer Steve Blum at Autodesk University in Las Vegas for a fireside chat. The conversation will explore how to navigate change in fast-moving industries and how individuals can drive positive transformation. Autodesk’s support has allowed GEI to offer a wide range of training, from intensive bootcamps to virtual workshops on cinematography, documentary filmmaking, and post-production. Participants also benefit from mock interviews, resume reviews, and networking events designed to enhance their professional growth. “Autodesk is committed to equipping the next generation of creators with the skills they need to succeed in a changing world,” said Steve Blum. “Through our partnership with GEI, we’re helping future leaders in entertainment access more training and connections, keeping them on track for long-term success.” GEI has also introduced one-on-one office hours and a mentorship program that has connected over 167 participants with industry professionals. These resources are vital in helping individuals navigate the challenges of the entertainment sector. “We saw the concerns raised by our participants during the strikes and used that time to ensure no gaps in their development,” said GEI Executive Director Sumi Parekh. “With Autodesk’s support, we’re not only strengthening our current programs but also expanding into new markets.” Job placement remains a key focus for GEI, which helps bridge the opportunity gap by connecting participants with internships and entry-level roles. During the strikes, the organization secured 70 paid internships for Angelenos through public-private partnerships.
