2004 China Automotive Marketing Summit Held in Chengdu
From April 3 to April 4, 2004, the "2004 China Automobile Marketing Summit" took place in Chengdu, marking a significant event in the automotive industry. Hosted by *China Automotive News* and co-organized by Chengdu Quanxin Automobile, the summit brought together key players from both the government and the auto sector. Attendees included Li Demin, deputy secretary-general of the *People's Daily*, as well as representatives from the overseas edition of the newspaper. Chen Qigui, deputy secretary-general of the Sichuan Provincial Government, delivered a speech on behalf of the vice governor. Li Qingwen, president of *China Automotive News*, opened the event, while Zhang Xiaokai, vice president of the China Machinery Industry Federation, gave an important address. The meeting was chaired by Li Chunlei, vice president of *China Automotive News*.
This was the first time that an automotive media organization had hosted such a high-level summit focused solely on marketing strategies in China’s auto industry. Representatives from major automobile manufacturers, marketing experts, and officials from Sichuan Province and Chengdu City were present. Discussions centered on critical challenges and opportunities shaping the evolving Chinese auto market.
At the time, China’s automotive industry was experiencing rapid growth, but certain segments of the market were already showing signs of oversupply. This signaled a shift toward a buyer’s market, where competition was intensifying. In response, a new era of comprehensive marketing was emerging, with innovative approaches such as 4S dealerships, brand stores, automotive markets, and multi-brand superstores gaining traction. These developments were expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the industry.
The summit aimed to explore these trends and provide insights into how the auto market would continue to evolve. It served as a platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders. As the market became more competitive, the need for effective and integrated marketing strategies became more pressing than ever.
