Wauconda firefighters responded to a reported garage fire this afternoon at 26703 N. Main Street, located in an unincorporated area of their district. Upon arrival, crews discovered a two-story home with heavy fire in the attached garage, which was quickly spreading and threatening the living areas. The incident was immediately escalated to a second alarm, bringing additional units from surrounding departments to assist.
Firefighters deployed two lines into the structure to prevent the fire from advancing further into the house. Despite the intensity of the blaze, only a small section near the garage wall sustained direct fire damage. Thanks to swift action, the fire was fully under control within 30 minutes of the initial call.
Mutual aid came from several nearby departments, including Long Grove, Countryside, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Barrington, Nunda, Lake Zurich, Cary, and Mundelein. Their quick response helped contain the fire and minimize potential damage.
Larry Shapiro arrived on scene just as the fire was being extinguished and managed to capture a few images of the situation and the responding units. His photos provide a clear view of the extensive damage caused to the garage, including a partial roof collapse.
The first image shows the garage with significant structural damage and a collapsed roof, highlighting the severity of the fire. Another photo captures firefighters working to stop the flames from spreading into the main house. Additional shots show crews removing debris, wetting down smoldering areas, and inspecting the charred remains of a vehicle inside the garage.
One image features firefighters rolling up their attack lines after the fire was under control, while another highlights the Wauconda Fire Department’s tower ladder positioned in front of the house. A final photo shows the department’s fire tanker assisting in operations, providing water to the engine working on the scene.
