A 55-year-old man named Sun Laohan from a small village in Rongcheng Yaxi Town used a tractor to create a homemade grinding machine. On the afternoon of February 23rd, while trying to crush corn stalks for his dairy cows, he accidentally crushed his right hand when it got caught in the machine. Despite being taken to the hospital, the injury was severe, and his right hand had to be amputated just above the wrist.
At 3:45 pm that day, after receiving an emergency call from the 120 dispatch center, medical staff from Rongcheng People’s Hospital rushed to the village, driving for tens of kilometers. Upon arrival, they found Sun Laohan's family covering him with cotton quilts and crying. When they uncovered him, they saw his right hand curled up, covered in blood, and he was unconscious with the wound still bleeding heavily. If not treated immediately, the bleeding could have been fatal.
The medical team quickly decided to perform first aid on the spot. By 4:10 pm, they successfully stopped the bleeding, wrapped his hand with bandages, and transported him to the hospital as soon as possible.
According to Sun Laohan’s family, the accident happened when he was trying to grind corn stalks. He had removed the back bucket of the tractor and attached a homemade grinder to the front. Due to an overload of corn stalks, the machine jammed, and Sun Laohan tried to clear it by putting his hand into the mechanism. As the machine suddenly started again, his right hand was crushed before he could pull it out.
After the emergency treatment, Sun Laohan’s condition stabilized, but the damage to his right hand was too severe. Doctors had no choice but to amputate it two centimeters above the wrist. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of using homemade machinery without proper safety measures.
