Completed the closure of 48 hazardous chemical companies in Shanghai
The efforts to reorganize the layout of hazardous chemical production and storage enterprises in Shanghai have yielded initial success. According to information obtained from the recent Shanghai Work Safety Conference, the city completed the adjustment of 48 dangerous chemical companies last year. This included the relocation of eight companies located in the Central Link and the Huangpu River Water Conservation Area to suburban areas. Meanwhile, related industries also shut down or adjusted the operations of 40 other hazardous chemical companies.
In addition, to enhance the safety of hazardous chemical transportation and support Shanghai's development as a global metropolis, the city introduced dynamic joint supervision and control measures in 2007. A total of 6,000 hazardous chemical transport vehicles were equipped with GPS systems. In line with the principles of safety and convenience, 25 regular crossings and 12 designated crossings for hazardous chemical vehicles were marked with clear signs indicating restrictions and access rules.
On the front of special equipment management, over one million gas cylinders and 1.2 million LPG cylinders were filled at 109 cylinder filling stations. An electronic labeling system was established to manage gas cylinder registration information, improving traceability and safety.
It is reported that this year, Shanghai will continue to intensify safety supervision in key industries, particularly focusing on 10 hazardous material production and storage enterprises located outside the outer ring road and in the upper reaches of the Huangpu River. These facilities may pose risks of pollution accidents, and the city plans to implement shutdowns or relocations as part of ongoing adjustments.
