Last morning, I drove out to the 2-11 area on the near west side. A fire broke out in a very well-maintained Greystone building, roughly 50 by 100 feet. It looked like the main fire was on the second floor and in the attic. Firefighters were going inside, and Truck 36 was making several roof openings. The weather was cold and windy, and it seemed like the fire really intensified when the wind picked up.

The scene was intense, with thick smoke pouring from the structure and flames visible through the upper windows. Firefighters worked quickly to control the blaze, and multiple units were on the scene. It’s always sobering to see such a dramatic response in action. The neighborhood is pretty quiet normally, so this kind of event definitely draws attention. I’ve seen a few fires over the years, but this one stood out for its size and the speed at which it spread. Looking at the photos, it’s clear how serious the situation was. I’m glad everyone involved came out safe.
